water chestnut picks

"This is the easy old school bacon wrapped water chestnuts, veganized with vegan franks.  The crunch of the water chestnut, along with the fat, sweetness and smoke of the melted margarine mixture makes this a good appetizer to serve to non-vegan friends and vegans alike"

Not the healthiest in the world, but people love this combo
Equipment:
toothpicks
baking sheet
bowl for melting and mixing margarine
oven or toaster oven

Ingredients: (for making around 11 pieces, using 2 "franks")

2 TBL melted vegan butter
2 TBL agave nectar , or 2 TBL sugar
as needed, vegan "hotdogs" (tofurkey has really good franks and, Field Roast has incredible, best in category franks, in my opinion) cut into bite size pieces
as needed, thick sliced water chestnuts
as needed, toothpicks

Method:  preheat oven to 350 degrees

  • place small, edible size frank pieces and water chestnut slices on toothpicks and place on baking sheet
  • melt margarine in bowl in microwave, or on stove and add agave or sugar until combined
  • pour margarine mixture over items on baking sheet and place in oven for around 15-20 minutes, or  until you see a little sizzle starting
  • turn off oven and let apps sit, then place in serving dish and serve
